Description: Kuala Kubu Bharu site is a hill with elevation of 400m AGL, TO direction is SW and required wind for launching is S, SW and W.
Recently discovered and developed, in August 2014 and progressively being refined to meet all safety standards including mapping the thermal activities and areas. The access road at the moment requires 4x4, provided by the local club operating at the site but development roadmap includes improving the access road for ordinary cars to be able to reach the TO.
Take-off: 3°33′31"N, 101°40′40"E, altitude 400 meters, GR 4 (see in google map).
TO area is wide area cleared off bushes and trees, about 2,000sqft and the runway length for launching is about 50m with 30degree slope.
Landing: 3°32′40"N, 101°40′29"E, altitude 20 meters (see in google map).
LZ is an open field at the stadium, 1.8km from the TO on a straightline direction. Along the way to the LZ there are plenty of optional LZ such as football fields and empty spaces next the the ponds.
The LZ area is a recreational area where public often visits during weekends for activities such as fishing at the ponds and football but the designated LZ is an area not used for the public.
Weather and wind at this place: Weather is suitable for paragliding from February to September during the dry season, with required wind direction to be from South or SouthWest while mild West wind would still be possible.
Going there: From Kuala Lumpur, take the PLUS highway towards North and take the exit to Kuala Kubu Bharu near Tanjung Malim. From Kuala Lumpur to PLUS exit, it takes about 1 hour and from the exit’s toll plaza, it will take about 30minutes to reach the site.
Special flying rules at this place: Local flying club managing the site can be reached prior to visiting the site, there are minimal daily transport fees (about RM15 / USD5) required to send/retrieve of the pilots.
The site has a clearance for VFR flights up to the ceiling of 5,500ft ASL but advisable to contact the ATC for NOTAMs as occasionally there will be low flying helicopters on VFR route to the nearby casinos in Genting Highlands. Official permission from the ATC will be handled by the local flying club.
